High efficiency surfactant and versatile wetting agent.

DeCAL 2170 is a formulated aqueous/propylene glycol solution of sodium dioctyl sulphosuccinate.

1.Typical properties:

  • Appearance         Colourless liquid
  • Active content     66%
  • Solid content        70%
  • Density                1.01g/cm³

2. Applications:

Solubility of DeCAL 2170 in water based formulations depends on type of electrolyte and concentration, e.g. in the presence of 1% sodium chloride a turbid solution is formed. The active substance of DeCAL 2170 is hydrolysed by acids and alkalis. The best working range of pH is between 6-9. The products of hydrolysis are water soluble. Since any component present in a formulation can have significant impact on the overall latex properties, compatibility and dosage level should always be checked in the actual formulation.

Typical uses of DeCAL 2170 include:

  •  Pigment Dispersion - Self-emulsifying pigment pastes can be formulated comprising of only the pigment and DeCAL 2170
  • Water based coatings - DeCAL 2170 may be post-added to a coating formulation to assist the wetting of substrates with low surface tension, e.g. plastics and metals. The optimal concentration range for DeCAL 2170 in this application must be derived from a series of experiments in the actual formulation in order to achieve maximum wetting with low foaming.
  • Water based wax formulations such as car polishes can be stabilized against phase separation by addition of DeCAL 2170.

3.Recommended concentration of DeCAL 2170:

  • Pigment Dispersion - up to 5%  Based on pigment weight.
  • Water based coatings: 0.05 - 0.3% based on total formulation.
  •  Water based wax formulations - up to 5% based on wax weight

3.Safety & Handling: DeCAL 2170 should be handled in accordance with good industrial practice. Detailed information is provided in the Material Safety Data Sheets. We hope this information will be of value and if necessary we will be glad to offer additional technical advice.
